[ The image presented on the screen shows a Kirk that looks like he probably just got up. He doesn't have enough hair for it to look to messy, but somehow it manages it, and his eyes look bleary. He runs a hand over his face and sighs. ]

Or just afraid of hurting a friend? If the latter, you could do much more harm in letting him continue thinking there is a chance, than to end the option entirely.
