[ Kirk had gone to the tavern as was his usual, looking a bit roughened from his work that day and his lessons, some dirt smudged here and there and some sweat still clinging to him. But it didn't dim his smile or the spark in his blue eyes when the other came to him. ]
Been one of my fuller days. I think I have an idea of what my night is going to be like.
Another heavy sigh leaves the mage as he stares into the mug in his possession, sitting on the bed while lounging against the wall it is next to. Normally he would drink in the tavern, but for his thoughts it was too loud. Usually he didn't try drinking in bed, especially with cats around and a new bear pelt. He only does since it seems to help him shuffle though the thoughts in his head.
Or it could just be because he knew Kirk would be back to the loft soon and there were some things to talk about.
Kirk felt in good spirits as he headed up the stairs to the loft. Things had been calm of late, and he was enjoying that lull. It was time to catch up earning coin and teach his classes, time to adjust to certain new memories stuffed in his head - time to simply breathe and not be fighting or running for his life. He was coming to understand how rare these spans of time were, especially the long ones, so best to soak it up.
He came in the door to the loft, shrugging off his outer coat and so not seeing Sam immediately as he turned to hang it up. "Hey," he said in greeting, finally turning to look at him and pausing, his next step a touch more hesitant. "Had a good evening?"
It's only when Kirk has finished putting up his coat and turns that Sam snaps out of his daze, looking up from the mug to give a smile. It's a little tired, since it has been a long day, but no less bright at seeing the other man finally back.
"Hey," he greets in return, shifting a bit so that he's sitting up a bit straighter. "Uneventful evening. Just... thinking. You?"
"This is the most camping I think I've done in my life," Kirk joked with Iskandar as they went about the tasks of setting up a camp site for the night.
They were not so very far from Skyhold, the shadow of it visible through gaps in the trees. It was far enough for privacy though, which had been the idea when he had first proposed this as his winnings from the chess match. They could find 'privacy' in Skyhold, relatively speaking, but not like this. There was a romantic streak in Kirk despite his attitudes on relationships, and the thought of sharing Iskandar beneath a starry sky with little fear of how loud he might be was arousing to say the least.
He was seeing to the fire and setting up to make a meal, leaving Iskandar to work at the tent - which was precisely as Kirk planned, as it left him to 'guard' their packs. It wouldn't do for Iskandar to touch them and potentially feel what was inside, at least in his own.
"It should be done in just...a moment... There!" He stepped back to proudly present the tent to Jim. He'd gotten much better at putting them up with all of this practice and he was pleased with the results. Grinning, he went over to give him a quick kiss then reached for the packs since there would be food in there as well as an easier method for starting a fire.
"We can cook our food and then eat as we enjoy the stars. Ah I hope you can cook better than myself. It is still not a skill I have mastered."
Returning the kiss was automatic, his hands teaching for the packs less so.
Damn it, Iskandar would ruin his surprise! He snatched his own packs at
least, which were the ones that held what he had planned inside.
"Why don't you get the fire going and lay out some ingredients?" Kirk
suggested. "I'll set up the bedrolls. No time like the present to expand
your skill set," he teased the conqueror, making for the tent. He really
would set up the bedrolls, but he had other ideas too. Hopefully Iskandar
did not get to curious and peek.
"Luckily we won't need to stew anything tonight," he said over his shoulder
as he ducked inside. "I'm surprised you don't know how to roast something
over a fire though. That seems like a thing that's right up your alley."
Keep Iskandar distracted with conversation - that's the plan, hoping
Iskandar's booming voice would cover any odd sounds as he changed.
I wanted you to know, Jim ... that being a good person, a faithful person, is something that I owe to you. You opened my eyes to a different way of thinking and if you had not? I would not have the courage to do what I need to do now. Thank you.
[There ... isn't an answer. James has put the crystal down to get his affairs in order, talk to a few other people. Of course now he is getting distracted by other people.]
Well, I was thinking of doing a little shopping in Hightown, and as you have such exquisite taste in ladies' underthings, I was wondering if you would accompany me and give me your opinion? And most likely shock a few shopkeeps by just being there around the lacy, frilly things.
[ he calls at an hour fairly soon after the Gallows mess would have closed for the evening. his tone is polite, perfunctory. ]
This is not a social call, but rather one under the purview of Research. Would you mind describing, as best you are able, whatever you were doing shortly before you arrived in Thedas?
[ pause, shuffling of paper. ]
I am seeking to gather information about Rifters. As the Inquisition has stopped conducting formal interviews upon arrival, we do not have much documentation on the phenomenon for those of us who have arrived more recently. You are not obligated to answer, and are quite free to refuse.
Research, huh? And who might this be that I'm speaking with?
[ Really, introductions Thranduil. Manners manners, especially since he can't see who it is. And, frankly, he was always a touch uneasy when things like this came up, even if it did sound like another Rifter from the language. The gathering of such info wasn't necessarily a bad idea in and of itself, but with tensions as they were he was slightly more cautious than his usual reckless self. ]
Of chess and pickup lines [Private call to action]
Re: Of chess and pickup lines [Private call to action]
[ He laughed when he heard the call come through. ]
It was partly to attract attention to my call for that chess game, but also I was curious. And maybe it was a little bit of research too.

Research? Exactly what did you learn? Bad pickup lines are bad anywhere you go?

That obvious? Thought I was holding it in better.
But yeah, I could use an ear and a beer if you have both. I'll return the favor, of course.
