[ The image presented on the screen shows a Kirk that looks like he probably just got up. He doesn't have enough hair for it to look to messy, but somehow it manages it, and his eyes look bleary. He runs a hand over his face and sighs. ]

Okay, how badly do you need therapy when even you have to admit that you need therapy?

Yeah. But why do you think you need therapy, anyway? Did something happen?

Yeah, you could say that - something happened. Just... I don't know how to deal with it. I've never been good at dealing with this sort of thing - ask any girl I've ever been with.

I don't think there's anything wrong in admitting that. I mean, everyone needs help with things sometimes, right? And besides, it's not like people magically know how to handle everything that happens to them.

Tons of people with magic here, and no one has a magic spell for that? Really?

Now that you mention it, I don't know if anyone does or not. Maybe you could ask around-- different worlds have different magic, so maybe a spell like that does exist somewhere.

Yeah, maybe, though, I dunno... would I really trust an answer from magic? Seems like asking a magic eight ball when I think about it...

A magic what ball?

Uh, magic eight ball. They're a novelty item in my world. You ask it a question and shake it, and it gives you answer - yes, no, not gonna happen, maybe, something like that. They're totally fake - it's just a die suspended in liquid, but they're fun for a laugh.

Does it really use any magic at all, or is that part fake too?

[Emil is curious! He has never heard of these things before.]

Nope, all fake. Remember there's no magic in my world, just tech, and the magic eight ball is based on cheap physics and luck.

Oh, right. But that doesn't mean that there isn't one in another world that does use magic. I don't know if that would make you want to trust it more, though.

A magic eight ball? Ah, not really. Old stigmas die hard and stuff. It's like asking a ouija board for answers from the dead. It's all in your head.

Sounds like regular old therapy might be the best option, then.

Yuuuup. Know any licensed therapists?

Um, not really... have you tried asking at the Battle Dome clinic? Maybe one of the doctors there knows someone.

Yeah, I guess I could. It makes me wish Bones was still here...

[And then Emil droops slightly.]

... yeah. I really miss him sometimes.

_{[Oh snaps. There he went, opening his big mouth again. ]}

I guess I haven't been a superb Uncle to you lately either, huh?

[Well, that snaps him out of it quickly, at least!]

N-no, you've been just fine! I didn't really have much of a family in my world, so I'm happy just getting the chance to have one here instead. But... I wouldn't mind doing some more things together, if that's okay with you.

No, that sounds like a pretty good idea. I should have checked in on you more recently, but...

Well, I should have just checked on you more. I'm not used to having a nephew or a kid brother around.

There something you want to go do? I'm pretty free except for my wallowing.

[He just smiles.]

It's okay-- I'm sure that would be pretty strange if you're not used to it. I'd probably end up forgetting all the time too.

[And then he pauses for a moment, thinking.]

Hmm... it's still kind of cold out, but maybe when it warms up a little, we could go out to one of the lakes. They've got a lot of fish in them if you're into that, or if not, we could always just take a boat out for a while.

_{[ He had to grin at that. Fishing with this kid he called his nephew? What was more folky than that? But he kind of liked it, actually. ]}

Yeah, you got it. Soon as the weather warms up, we'll make a weekend of it - go camping and stuff.

Great! It'll be nice to go camping when it isn't snowing out... um, don't ask. It wasn't my idea, really.

No, I believe you. Just... probably don't do it again. Camping in the snow sounds awful.

It wasn't as much fun as I hoped it would be, let's just put it that way.
