[And it seriously does not take him long at all. Sandalio arrives and he's even brought hot tea and cups with him. Because he offered and obviously that means he's following through with that.]
[ Kirk gets up to let him in when he hears the door signal. He’s not
dressed up - just his usual black v-neck and loose gray sweats, feet bare.
On his shoulder sat a peculiar creature that looks like an overlarge slug
the color of an ocean at midday, but more downy and less slimey. Tuft like
ears wiggles curious at Biffy as Kirk stepped back to let him in. On the
table sat another of them, coral colored, seemingly quite content to play
guard to an array of small tools, metal bits and bobs, and a compact metal
case.
Kirk flashed a somewhat brighter smile at Biffy, motioning for him to
take a seat where he liked. ]
I’d offer you a snack to go with the tea, but I don’t think I’d have
anything you’d prefer at the moment.
Given the fact that I have a rather particular need for raw meat, I hardly fault you, Captain.
[He eyes the creatures. Partly in confusion and partly in the hopes that his werewolf aura won't scare them. He does approach all the same and sets the tea down, pouring some for Kirk first then himself.]
Forgive me for pushing past pleasantries but I must ask...are you alright?
[ The creatures seemed unconcerned. The coral one turned its regard on
Biffy, little tufts wiggling curiously. Kirk took up a cross-legged
position, accepting his tea with a nod of thanks and then shrugged at
Biffy’s question. ]
I’m all right. Im just... adjusting.
[ He paused, his fingers reaching up to run across the downy coat of
the slug on his shoulder. ]
Fenris went... somewhere. Home, maybe. Either way he’s not in the Fleet
anymore.
[He assumes that's a fair assumption at least. Sitting down he doesn't even look at the terrible posture the other has for drinking tea. He'll let it slide because of mourning.]
[ He sipped from his cup. Tea wasn’t his preferred drink, but it
tasted good for the care it was delivered with. Warm too. He made a soft
hum of appreciation. ]
Adalwolfe is gone too - a friend. The quiet is taking some getting used to.
[ Kirk looked up at Biffy and smiled softly. He reached out, gripping
his forearm briefly, thanking him for the sentiment and also relaying his
own understanding. ]
Ah I almost forgot to introduce you - this is Azul and that is Roja.
[ He nodded to the blue and coral slugs respectively. ]
They’re harmless, promise. You can pet them if you want.
True, but even then, they still sound nicer rolling off the tongue. I
thought about using the Vulcan names for the colors, but the Spanish just
felt better.
[ Kirk picked up Roja and plopped them on Biffy’s shoulder. Roja’s
tufts flicked and swiveled, but otherwise seemed content as always besides
some shifting to explore its new perch. ]
They’re very chill. And calming. They actually help keep you calm - little
low level empaths. They can’t control your mind or anything, but they just
help you breathe a little easier.
[ He scratched Azul absently. ]
Ah, but you wanted to talk to me about something? Sorry, I didn’t mean to
get us off track.
[ He nodded, reaching under the table and pulling up the data pad,
which was currently hooked up to the little box on his table. He brought up
the calendar they had started. ]
[ Kirk nodded and tapped at the pad, entering the data into a chart.
Several numbers after it morphed and he considered them for a moment before
nodding. ]
All right, that’s one more data point.
[ He looked up at Biffy as he dismisses the charts, a new program
swiping back into place that looked like a star chart, lines of code in a
box beside it. ]
It will take a few more months probably before we can get you a solid
timeline, but I think with this we can get you an approximate number of
days before it happens again.
Based on the past two months, I do suspect it is Earth, though how that’s
possible so many light years away is beyond me. Some things here, though,
you just learn to accept.
[ He saw Biffy looking and smiled, tapping a button at the bottom of
the screen and giving an order to the room. The lights dimmed some and the
little box on his table came to life. Light rose from the top and pressed
against the ceiling and down the walls, surrounding them with stars, some
connected with thread-thin lines. ]
Another one of my projects, mostly to keep my mind busy. Chekov’s been
providing a lot of the data - got a big chunk as my birthday present.
I write the code and make the machinery, but Chekov provides the data.
Without that this would be little more than a very bright and hardly useful
nightlight.
[ He smiled and then looked down, tapping in directions. The stars
shifted, swirled, and after a moment resolved. The blue or earth’s orb and
silver sub looked far off in the distance, the sun further still, the other
planets swirling colored balls. He looked at Biffy, grinning widely. ]
[ Kirk chuckled and nodded, tapping a few commands. Earth zoomed in,
rotating to show the European continent. Kirk switched Earth to "night
view" and the continents lit up with their web of lights. ]
There are. London.
[ He pointed to a mass of light on the island just to the north of
France. He turned the globe so that it showed the American continents, and
he pointed to a much quieter dot in the northern part of America. ]
That's Riverside. Or, well, close enough to it. That's where I lived most
of my life.

We were lovers.

You named them Blue and Red?

[ Kirk grinned sheepishly. ]
Naming things is not one of my strong suits, but at least Azul and Roja have a better ring to them than Blue and Red.

[He may be British but his ancestry is Spanish after all.]

[ He laughed. ]
True, but even then, they still sound nicer rolling off the tongue. I thought about using the Vulcan names for the colors, but the Spanish just felt better.

I'm honestly just grateful they're not nervous around me. Some creatures are around werewolves.

Amazing...

Yes. I had another cycle.

[He leans over to look at the star chart. It's quite fascinating really.]
Have you been able to determine if there is a certain moon I am tied to? So far this seems rather consistent.

Here. I come from London.

May I ask what your project is exactly? What you're doing with this star information?
