rotating to show the European continent. Kirk switched Earth to "night
view" and the continents lit up with their web of lights. ]

[ He pointed to a mass of light on the island just to the north of
France. He turned the globe so that it showed the American continents, and
he pointed to a much quieter dot in the northern part of America. ]
That's Riverside. Or, well, close enough to it. That's where I lived most
of my life.
[ He tapped a few more commands and slowly the Earth grew smaller,
blowing out into the circle of the solar system, the planets swirling on
their orbits in a cosmic dance. ]
And we hope that, in collecting this data, should we ever be freed of
Atroma, we can use the data to find our way home. Right now, we know the
coordinates of Earth but the issue with that is that those coordinates are
based off Star Fleet records, which may not even exist here, which means
those coordinates may not be useful. So, more or less, we're just trying to
leave ourselves a trail of bread crumbs to work back as far as we can.
Maybe we would. Maybe we wouldn't. We honestly don't know. Right now it
seems that Atroma controls when and where we go back or get pulled from. If
we somehow escaped Atroma's field, there's no guarantee that we will be
sent back to where we came from.
Well, you know what they say - hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
I hope everyone can go home, if that’s where they want to go. I hope
everyone just ends up somewhere they’re happy.
But the more realistic version is we get stuck in a part of space not even
the space faring people have seen before. Better to have half a map than no
map.
[ A small shrug with one shoulder, the stars continuing to draw father
and further out. ]
If nothing else I have my uniforms from my world, so I can look the part of
a space explorer when the time comes.
[ Kirk grinned, motioning for Biffy to turn around - because it needs
to be a surprise if it's going to be anything like a real show. ]
All right, let me change. Let's see... my normal day to day first, I think.
And before you ask, yes, I know the color is not the best on me, but it is
a uniform and I didn't exactly have a choice.
[He obediently turns around but maybe glances over his shoulder one more time as if he might disobey and spy on him while he changes. But he doesn't and keeps his back turned.]
Oh? What is the color? Do I get to know in advance?
[ He laughed, the sound mixing with the crumple and stretch of cloth
as he changed. It had been a minute since he had put on his uniforms, and
was glad that the pieces still fit well. He could practically hear Bones in
his head telling him to watch his calories and to exercise. The cloth
settled on his shoulders and he paused for a moment, touching the symbol
over his heart, felt the way it meshed against his skin. His heart
tightened for a fraction of a moment before he shoved those feelings away
and turned, hands on hips. ]
All right, look number one - my every day uniform.
[He turns around and moves around him to inspect it. It's true that the color really is not flattering and he would have picked something not so...this. However, the cut of the uniform suits him well and he nods approvingly as he comes back around in front of him.]
Yellow is Command and Navigation. Red is for Engineering and Security. Blue
is Science and Medical. It's an easy way to identify in what department
someone works, both in daily life on the ship and in an emergency. There's
some wiggle in the colors for certain jobs, but overall that's the
breakdown.
[ He motions for the other to turn around again and went back to his
closet to get out his dress
uniform. Decidedly less colorful than his everyday uniform, it being
all of a rather sombre and neutral gray. Definitely not his favorite. He
even hated the little hat, but it is what it is. ]

[ He chuckled, making a flapping motion with the pants to signal he
planned to dress. If Biffy wanted to turn around, now was the time, though
Kirk didn't mind if he watched either. He reached down to tug off his
shirt, exposing the tattoo that ran down his side - his ship's number and
the Star Fleet Emblem. ]
More flattering, maybe, but far less useful in day to day life. Not nearly
enough pockets.
[ He didn't like the uniform for that reason, as well as the fact that
the only reason he usually wore the uniform was for rather more sombre
occasions of late. Rarely, it felt like, did good things happen with that
uniform on. ]
Well, let's be honest, I really don't want to try climbing a cliff-face,
trekking through a jungle, or running from something with more teeth than a
shark in this particular fabric. It's just not practical.
[ He shrugged the jacket on and fastened it, shifting the hat in his
hand and then onto his head, setting it and nodding to himself. ]
I honestly would prefer to do none of those things. However, I understand your point on the matter.
[All of that sounds like it would ruin your appearance. No thank you. When he hears the question, he turns to look at him and gives him a look over, even moving around him to get all angles.]
