[He shrugs. He's honestly just pleased that the man was polite enough to want to offer him food in the first place. So just having this beer is lovely.]
Mm. The last time I had ale or beer it was in a filthy tavern by the ports. I'm sure that will tell you enough about the quality of drink.
Oh. I can go make up some meatballs or something if you like.
[ He cracked his own bottle and sipped, waiting to turn on the movie
in case Biffy did want meatballs. He chuffed at the description of the
beer's origin. ]
Oh, yeah, that sure does. Paints a beautiful picture, right on my palette.
Even the dive bar in my town had better beer than that.
[ Though by his time it was practically an art form all its own and
the only shitty beers were the mass produced, cheap ones that had managed
to make a comeback and held some cultural identity having survived the Wars
and such. ]
I am honestly pleased that you were willing to provide me with anything at all. You need not bother. I would not wish you to have to ensure they didn't have basil on top of that.
Is the basil a werewolf thing or just a Sandalio thing?
[ He's honestly curious. Old stories always said that creatures like
werewolves and vampires didn't like garlic after all. Why that particular
herb he would never understand. ]
Glad you like it. I don't drink beer to often, but this sort I don't mind
when I do.
If this is insensitive please tell me, but... why? The allergic to basil I
mean. Is there something special about basil that makes all werewolves
allergic to it? Like chocolate is bad for canines?
[ Science brain activate! ]
I’d like that. So, are you ready for your first one? This one is a
character-drama, focused around a sport, but you don’t need to know the
sport if you don’t recognize it, so don’t worry to much about that.
[ He has more questions, but he figures he should let it wait until
after the movie is over. He pressed play and sat down with Biffy, sipping
his beer and munching on the popcorn bit by bit. Can’t let food go to
waste. He cast glances at his companion now and then, as if to check how he
was reacting to the film. It was quite moving, all things told. ]
[He isn't sure really sure what he means by that but he supposes they can talk more when the movie is done.
As it turns out it is a play on a screen. Much like the video messages he's been doing. It's fascinating and his eyes remain glued to it the entire time. And not just for the technology! Though that is very impressive of course. No, this is largely about the story.
It's true that he doesn't really understand the sport but it seems that his companion is correct in the fact that he doesn't need to know about it. Which means he can just enjoy the story for what it is.
Really it's very moving too. Enough so that his eyes actually widen at the more moving places.
[ Kirk smiled, watching the expressions on Biffy’s face. It was one of
his favorites in the available selections and he was glad Biffy was
enjoying it. The credits rolled and Kirk stood up to stop the film, looking
to Biffy with an amused smile. ]
The technology is fascinating. I know so many would love to find out more about this technology since nothing this advanced exists where I come from.
[As for the story...]
But the story was quite moving. It was easy to feel sympathy for the protagonist as the struggles took place. Then there was a swelling of the heart when success happened. It was very moving.
I'm glad. And what makes it cooler is that according to the film, it's
based on a true story. It's dramatized perhaps a bit more than real life,
but still - I love these sorts of movies, or history pieces. I know there
are liberties taken for the sake of the script, but it really is something
to see a little bit of history come alive.
They definitely grew out of the theatre. The theatre still exists, but
movies are far more accessible to the masses than theatres - cheaper and
more easily distributed.
Each has its merits and I don’t mind a good musical now and then.
[ He looked to Biffy, hand on his hip. ]
You know, I never did ask - what year is it for you in your world?
Well enough. It seems I have a captain who is very understanding of my situation. I am already working with him to ensure that I am secured for when the full moon finally arrives.

Doesn't it?
[He laughs softly and lifts his bottle.]
This is far better.

I would be glad to join you in the future for more drinking together and movies, if you like.

[He really doesn't know any of the chemical properties or anything. He just knows that is how it is. As for the movie...]
Well in that case, I am ready to watch. Let us see this character-drama you have selected for us.

The garlic thing is real? Huh...
[ He has more questions, but he figures he should let it wait until after the movie is over. He pressed play and sat down with Biffy, sipping his beer and munching on the popcorn bit by bit. [ He beamed, stretching and rolling his head. ]
They're an art form, in my world.

[He watches the man stretch then lifts his bottle for another sip.]
I've always enjoyed the theater. I suppose that I will have to see about watching more of these movies since they have a similarity to that.

[Hence all of his fascination with everything. And confusion over modern phrases. It happens when you're from 1895.]
no subject
1896, huh? That would make Queen Victoria the monarch of England, right?
I’m from 2263, January.
no subject
[Once under...less than favorable circumstances.]
Really? 2263?
no subject
Oh? What’s she like?
[ History paints here in both golden and dubious lights, after all. ]
Yup. I was born in 2233, on one of the USS Kelvin’s medical shuttles, but I grew up in Riverside, Iowa.
no subject
[Iowa...]
That is...America, correct?
no subject
Sounds about right for a ruler, I suppose.
Got it in one. Though I don’t think Iowa exists just quite yet in your time. We don’t get all fifty stars until the early 1900s if I recall correctly.

no subject
Oh? Heh, I never was very good with the years states became states. Fifty is a bit much to memorize, even for me.

[He's rather good at reading people and Kirk seems the type.]
no subject
[ That gets a laugh out of him, bright and hearty. ]
Well, you would be right about that. State history was never one of my favorite subjects in school.
So, how's your first week on the ships going?
