_{[ He took the beer and sipped, the universal term of thanks for the drink. He licked his lips as the hologram display came up, and there's a bit of a start when York gives out that explanation. He knew York had known him back in the day, the other him, but it was always a bit odd to be reminded of it. For a minute his belly did a little flip of nervousness, but another sip of his beer quelled it.

It was a handsome design, that was for sure. Very handsome. ]}

Please tell you've finished it and I can try it on for size.

Not yet, gotta get through a few details. Offense versus defense, stealth versus strategy- you a reckingball and brawler over strategic, pinpoint strikes, that kinda stuff.

[ He flips through a few different options, a few different iterations of the suit before sitting back. ]

But I got a guy once you're ready.

_{[ He sat back, considering that, giving it the due consideration it deserved. He liked the suit, but it was ultimately something for his protection and use during combat situations. The questions were important, for all this was a friendly visit, and he needed to treat them that way. It could mean the difference between a bruise and his life some day. ]}

I'm no wrecking ball, so I'd definitely want something lighter, easier to move in. I can handle myself in a fight, but I've always been better with strategy than I have in-your-face combat. Doesn't mean I won't get up in it if I have to, though. I need something with a more jack-of-all-trades kind of set up versus something more specialized.

_{[ A sip of his beer, nodding and satisfied with that. It was pretty much the truth. He'd never received any specialized training in Star Fleet, but he was good enough when it came down to hand-to-hand, and he found himself in the heat of things quite a bit, so having a good array of armored spots would be a plus.

He glanced over at York, tilting his head a little. ]}

I'll trust you to pick the right suit for that. You know this stuff better than me. You won't steer me wrong.

I think I got a loadout that'll work for you.

[ Something geared more to tactical movement and organization- making a play based on the lay of the land and his crew at the time.

A little more walking battle computer, a little less tank, but he thinksi t'll work. He fiddles with the different readouts until one pops up, sleek and light and lethal. ]

HOw's that look?

_{[ Blue eyes watch York's finger work over the tech as he sipped his beer before turning to the new display. Aesthetically very pleasing, quickly taking in the read outs that popped up, though he would need more time to really get a feel for the schematics themselves. Only putting the suit on would give him the real feel of it.

But York wouldn't do him wrong, and he'd been at this a lot longer than Kirk had. Knew the tech and the gear better than he did. He'd trust his expertise and judgement. ]}

Sexy. Does it come in black and gold? Or blue, for a backup.

Gonna be a bumblebee, bro?

[ He grins and adds the colors as requested, all brushed gold and edged in black. Hell he even flicks the starfleet emblam on the shoulder. ]

Bumblebee's not such a bad thing to be. Hurts when they sting.

_{[ He stops with the bottle halfway to his lips when he sees the Star Fleet logo though, the very one he now had tattooed over his ribs. A few seconds to blink, tracing the pattern with his eyes alone, and then he was back to himself, finishing the motion of his drink, licking his lips afterwards. ]}

This way it'll match my wings.

_{[ He fluttered them, the edges dusted black in the reverse of the holo-displayed suit. ]}

And then they die. So. Let's not.

[ He's kind atired of the people he likes going missing and / or dying.

It's really getting old. ]

...shit I forgot about those. I'm gonna have to- is itcomfortable to fold them up?

_{[ Wow, that went dark.

But he knew the feeling. Tired of waking up to an empty bed, empty house, wondering if the faces you saw the next day would know you, or if you'd ever see the faces again. ]}

I've gotten asked that a lot lately.

_{[ He raised up one arm, stretching one wing with some concentration (they wanted to move as a pair most of the time), folding it down tight to lay along the length of his side. He put his arm back down to show it didn't impede, and then lifted it slightly again to release his wing. ]}

I can do it. They'll be sore if I keep them down for a long time, but it doesn't really hurt. It's like having to sit all day - you know what I mean? Have to crack your neck, or maybe your back aches, but you talk a walk and it feels better? It's like that.

These suits are made for long term wear. Fold them up on your back? Not tight, just on your back like you would normally.

[ A few scans will give him the proper dimensions. It'll mean fiddling with the chest peice but really? not that big a problem. ]

_{[ He let the wings fall naturally against his back. They hovered the tiniest bit above his skin, slightly bent. ]}

Uh, that feels normal. I've never actually thought to much on how they sit against my back when I'm not thinking about them.

_{[ He turned his head back slightly, considering them, eyebrows going up and down in a form of a shrug. ]}

Few extra inches on the back panel, maybe?

Rounded, padded shell. So if you move them they won't hurt, it'll keep compression injuries from being a thing. Might have to reroute the layer for biofoam....

_{[ He listened and kind of nodded, because he understood some of that, but not all of it. He was good at making things, but armor didn't tend to be one of them.

He finally just laughed softly and took a sip of his beer. ]}

Whatever you gotta do. You know more about it than me, so I leave it to you.

So... do I get to see the other stuff?

_{[ He's trying not to look like an excited kid, and he's managing it. Almost. ]}

[ He taps the small duffel with his foot. Pulse pistol, rechargable batteries, ammo clip, etc. ]

Should last you a good while.

Great. I mean, I hope I don't have a reason to run through it to fast. Just don't want to get caught flat footed like I was during that last mess.

_{[ He grinned, taking the bag and dragging it over to unzip it and glance inside. Weapons, ammo, armor. Thank god someone was taking him seriously. ]}

There are a few shooting ranges in D4 that won't give you much trouble. I'll send you the addresses.

[ A flick and a few lines of text and they ping on Kirk's glasses. ]

Aaaand there you go. I'd recommend keeping an eye on the temperature, they overheat like you wouldn't believe. Still working on that.

_{[ He glances at them and saves them. He doesn't feel the need to immediately check them. He was sure York knew what he was talking about. ]}

Kind of like a phaser then. If those things overload we run the risk of fairly large explosion. So, good to know.

_{[ He saluted with two fingers, zipping the bag back up and relaxing once more. ]}

Hey, I have another question for you - do you do security systems? Or know someone who does? I got my new studio, and I'm thinking having a bit more protection than a lock and key is in order.

Sure. I'm the one that has this place all wired up and secure. I'll have to come over and look at the space, make sure there's room for everything but- yeah I can swing that for you.

[ At a discounted price, even. ]

_{[ He sent the other the address for the new space, stretching his legs out. His eyes wandered about the space for the first time since he sat down, intrigued. ]}

You know, this is only the second time I've been in your house. You've got a nice set up.

It was yours, Grimm's, and Steve's first. I kinda moved in when a thing happened- so did Mal. Then grimm went missing and steve went missing and you vanished so it was just us- then North appeared and theta and delta so...yeah. It's sort of been home for awhile now.

_{[ He sipped his beer slowly as he listened to that, not understanding half of it to be honest. But there it was again, the ghost of someone else, some other him. Who, from what he had been hearing, was kind of an asshole and he wasn't sure he liked that. More and more he felt phantom teeth nipping at his heels.

But screw that. He was his own man, his own person, and he hoped he wasn't as much of an asshole as the past Jim. Whatever had happened, he wasn't him, and he couldn't spend his time worrying about things like that. ]}

Well, it's nice. If I had known I'd been in here before, might have asked for my old room back when I arrived.

_{[ He laughs softly, making light of it. ]}

Not that D4 wasn't delightful, but it's hard to go back to an apartment when you've been living in a house for three years.

Better company than the Jim Kirk from around here. Now that guy? Was an asshole. You were always pretty cool.

[ He kicks back to sip his tea, staring across. Differences are there, yeah, and this is A Jim. Not the one he knew and that's alright. He's still a decent guy. ]

Yeah, hav'n a house is pretty sweet in this district. Everyone' real frienly.

Yeah, I was in D4 until the riots. My place got trashed.

_{[ There's a flicker of sadness that ran across his face, because while he had not been attached to many things inside of that apartment, there had been one piece, and to have it destroyed had hurt him more than he had expected.

But he had replaced it in a new way, a better way, permanent now running down his ribs. ]}

I'm rooming with a friend while I save up, find a new place. Getting the studio set me back a bit, but he hasn't complained so far, so I think I'm good for a little bit longer. Can't say I'm hating actually having room to stretch my legs.

_{[ He grinned, tapping the bottle against the side of his thigh in a slow rhythm. ]}

Those apartments aren't half bad but a nice house? Always a good place to set up shop. Or you know. Hole up in a crisis.

[ There's something to say for cohabitation- most of the time. It feels like he keeps missing the guys in the house as of late. ]

Where's the studio? D3?

_{[ He had gotten used to it over the years in Luceti, and even though he had his own room on the Enterprise, well, everyone was in a pretty tight space. Not a sardine can, but still close. It didn't take much to reach out and find another person. Apartments were a lot lonelier. ]}

Yeah, got a good price for it too. I need to finish furnishing it, and want to add a crash space, but it's working out nice so far.

Little far from the house, but that's not a bad thing. I like my morning ride in.

_{[ He shrugged. ]}
