Reboot Complete

[ Taking your first conscious lungful of air after what seems forever is an entirely all to painful experience. Not surreal. Not relieving. Painful. His brain felt like it had been jolted by a car battery and his throat couldn’t decide if it wanted to close up or open so he could exhale and take in another breath.

Finally, that primal part of his brain, the part that worked to keep him alive when he wasn't paying attention, said stop being stupid and he took his second breath. Third. Fourth. Fifth. They kept coming, the pain easing at the same time that his vision went from blurry blobs to fuzzy shapes and finally to something resembling… trees?

Trees? He was in the woods?

He was dead and all he got was being shoved into some forest - albeit one for dead people? He was a hero! He seriously needed to go haunt somebody and let them know that dying sucked, there were no pearly gates, and he demanded an immediate refund.

That was when the rest of his body decided it needed to make its immediate aches and pains fully noted. Everything hurt, aching in a bone deep way that said he needed to both move and that he needed to sleep for another week. He couldn’t particularly decide which, so instead he chose to lay there, debating if the pain meant he was not, in fact, dead.

But… he had to be, didn’t he? The radiation he had absorbed when he kicked the reactor back into place should have killed him, and he had… Spock had been there, and he had…

He gulped, pushing the memory away, shifting to try and get his arm under him, his wings fluttering lightly as if -

Wait. Wings? WINGS?!

His head jerked around, for a moment making him see white stars and he stared in absolute horror at the canary yellow and black edged wings that peeked from behind his back, disturbingly bright on a dead man. Well, he thought he was dead… But he had only ever been to one place where he had sported wings, and angel wings were white (right?). So... was this... was this Luceti? Was he being punished by being sent to the hell version of Luceti, the place he thought he had somehow managed to escape (but never find again despite his efforts - and, in fairness, he had been a bit distracted). Or worse- this was real. He was alive, and he was back in Luceti.

And in a hospital gown. Awesome.

To weak to move himself much more, he collapsed back down, sweating for his effort and he wondered if he would stink of radiation now… did radiation have a scent? He guessed he’d find out. His eyes drifted, coming back from the pain induced haze they’d glazed through, dropping on the journal. Of course it was right beside him, like a faithful dog that didn’t know when it wasn’t wanted.

Well, this time he actually needed it. He reached out, bringing it closer, that effort alone making his head spin as he worked it open to speak - ]

Hey everyone. You miss me?

[ Of course, that's base on the idea there's anyone he knows still here to miss him. Did they remember him, a year and more later? ]

[He'll even teleport for you. See what a good friend he is?]

_{[ He probably looks worse up close. Pale and sweating from his earlier
exertions, and while the drawn look of the dying was kept at bay, neither
did he look like a spring chicken.}

He looked up at Loki when he arrived, giving him a pained smile. ]

Should start a delivery business if you're that fast. You'd make a fortune.

...You did bring pants right?

[Loki holds out a pair of sweatpants that he doesn't wear because they're a bit short on him. Not to mention undignified.]

You look ghastly.

_{[ Sweatpants are wonderful. You have no idea what you're missing.

Sorry I couldn't get my make up on in time.

_{[ he sat up with obvious pain and effort, trying his best to hide it
as he reached up for the pants. He wished his body didn't ache so much, but
he counted that as the price for being alive. ]}

[Loki watches Kirk curiously. He actually dies reach out to help him once or twice, and one of those times he puts a ward on the mortal. It's a very subtle spell.]

Whatever happened to you?

_{[ Kirk wouldn't have noticed the spell anyways. He had never been
attuned to magic, even when he had that spirit inside of him. ]}

Well, not to be dramatic but I'm pretty sure I died. Except now I'm not dead. Crap, that doesn't make me a zombie does it?

_{[ He accepts the help a bit less than gracefully, but eventually is
coveted beneath his gown. Getting fully to his feet would be another
matter. ]}

Just to be on the safe side, you probably ought to avoid Eugene and his friends until you've figured that out.

[Oh geeze, he'll even help you stabs, Kirk. What a pal he is.]

_{[ he accepted it without fuss, his whole body aching like he had been
laying down to long and changing position was a dire affront. He leaned
against Loki, arm on his shoulder. ]}

Well, I don't have a craving for human flesh. In fact, pretty sure I've been on the IV diet.

_{[ He looked down at his hand where there were punctur marks consistent
with that. ]}

The last lot didn't try to eat anyone either. They're rather nervous, those boys.

What did you do to yourself?

[Hm, probably the best place to drop Kirk of is the clinic...]

Long story short? I went into a nuclear reactor without protection to get my ship up and running so we didn't crash into a city of millions.

_{[ So he died. Basically. Maybe. He was still fuzzy on that now, and he
wasn't particularly happy with that, but for now it was was it was. He
could contemplate later. ]}

Radiation poising, if you want even shorter.

I think you should really reconsider your life choices, dear Captain.

I am sure many would agree with you, but that's kind of one I can't really undo.

_{[ And, he wouldn't. He had gotten them into the situation, it was his
responsibility, his crew. He would risk his life for them without question
again and again. ]}

Nay, nothing that springs to mind. It hasn't been long at all.

_{[ He looked around the woods, tired and cold, and even with Loki here
he wanted nothing more than to sleep and be warm. ]}

I am debating if I need coffee or pain meds.

If you're terribly cute about it I might even just teleport you.

I don't want to be to cute about it. I think your girlfriend might protest a bit.

_{[ Still, he flashed him a grateful grin. He could do teleporting, and
he was hoping Loki would decide that the better option. He wasn't sure how
he'd handle a trek through the woods... ]}

_{[ He blinked several times, as if nonplussed and innocent. ]}

They haven't fallen out yet, though they're a bit ragged. Might want to see to them.

I'll have to get a stylist then. I'm no good with that sort of thing.

_{[ He sighed, unable to keep up the mirth and stumbling some, his face
paling a bit more. ]}

Hah. The next we know, he'll be swooning.

[He takes a better grip on Kirk and teleports them to the clinic.]

_{[ He clung to Loki as they teleported, waiting for his stomach to
decide if it wanted to revolt or not. He gulped, leaning heavily into Loki,
closing his eyes as he waited for his body to settle. ]}
