Sad Tidings [ Video ]

I know this is coming kind of late, so sorry about that, but you just have to be sure, you know? I didn't want to write her off and cause a panic or have that stupid kid give me the look for a week...

But... yeah, I'm pretty sure Arya Stark has gone home, and Nymeria with her.

[ There's obvious sadness on his face and his voice, though he's trying to do his manly and captainly best and hold it back. But, he had cared for that little girl. She was such a tomboy, and he had even grown to like Nymeria, even if he had to clean her fur off the couch twice a day or else he'd be as furry as she was.

The house was just... emptier now. Like part of his crew was gone, an empty chair not yet filled on his deck. It hurt. ]

_{[ That's how she was, how he wanted to remember her and believe her to
be. Because if she was like that, she'd make it. ]}

[Spock crouches next to the armrest.]

Are you going to be alright Captain?

Yeah, I'll be fine. We both knew this would happen one day, right? It was going to happen - to one of us, to all of us.

_{[ He shrugged. Hell, they had been looking for ways to make this
happen. It just... hurt more than he thought it would. Because in their
version, in the one he had hoped would happen, they got to say a proper
goodbye... ]}

It is the suddenness correct? You did not get to say goodbye to her.

... Maybe.

_{[ It came after a long pause. He's not good with feelings, Spock, you
know this. He's better at it than you, but he's good with the angry
emotions, not the ones that hurt like this. Hell, no man is. ]}

I just want to know she's okay.

_{[ Like an uncle wanting to drop off their niece at school. ]}

Of course. We can only trust that she is... for it is illogical to think otherwise.

[Spock realizes that this does not make it any easier, but it is all that he can offer.]

You said it yourself Jim. She is strong.

It's perfectly logical to think she's not! Did she ever tell you what she's going back to? For all we know, the logical thing is she magically appeared and got her head lopped off by some scumbag!

_{[ He took a breath, calming himself down, fisting his hands. ]}

[Gingerly, and kind of awkwardly because he's not used to it, the Vulcan places a hand on his Captain's shoulder.]

Captain, Jim... You know that this will continue to happen to those around us. Either of us could leave at any moment without having the chance to say goodbye.

_{[ He doesn't shrug the hand away, but he's not doing much with it
either. It's just there. ]}

Yeah, I know, but she... she's just a kid, Spock. She's not you, or me, or Katniss, or Natasha, or even flippin' Vegeta. I know you guys can take care of yourselves, but she's...

_{[ She was like his kid sister, his niece like Emil was his "nephew".
He had come to care for her, to enjoy having her and Nymeria in this house,
a part of their home. The sudden absence was startling in a way the others
had not been. ]}

[Spock doesn't say anything at first...

Jim is in pain, that much is obvious. The Vulcan just doesn't know how to help him. The fact it, he probably can't.]

We all worry about those we care about Captain. She lived in her world without you before, and she will do so again. Nymeria will protect her, of that I am certain.

_{[ Nymeria would protect her. Right. But... what if Nymeria died? What
then? She was an animal, albeit a smart one. He sighed, shoving himself up
from his seat where he had been broad casting, itching, not liking the
house with its aching emptiness. ]}

I want to go for a walk or something.

[Spock stayed where he was... watching his Captain with worry.]

Do you... wish to be alone?

_{[ He shrugged, not really sure. Did he? He glanced at Spock and then
around. ]}

Come on. You need fresh air too.

[Spock nods, and joins his Captain.]
