Literary Inquiry [ Video ]

[ So, Luceti, you have Kirk showing up today on our totally hi-grade, super deluxe communication system (haha, yeah right). Anyways, he's there, and he currently has a copy of George Orwell's "1984" displayed in hand. ]

So... I have an honest to god sort of question for everyone. 

How many of you ever thought or believed the stuff in books like this would come true in the future? Or better yet, does anyone actually live in a world like these books describe?

Because, really, the twenty-first century view of the future is... interesting.

Hmm, I see your point. I still think a part of this guy thought this would be the future though, but this is also so far in my world's past it's hard to really grasp what he was thinking and going through at time. What any of these guys were, actually.

Though I always found it curious that the term 'brother' was used. A family member implies a caretaker, someone that will look out for you... not invade your privacy like this 'big brother' seems apt to do.

Well, wasn't this written in an era where Communism and Red Scare and such was going on and people were fighting for social equality? Communism used the terms "Comrade" and "brother" and "sister" I think to help denote that everyone was of the same rank and should help each other, like family. So "Big Brother" was just looking out for you, like family should, keeping the peace, but to a major and very nightmare fueling extreme.

Though I am curious, what's your vision of the future?

Yeah... like those. Some things, way back in the history of my world, they resemble that, like in the Aztec and Mayan empires. But nothing in recent history. It's noticeable, and not in a good way.

_{[ Which makes it all the sadder that it's a spectacle in her world. That people ENJOY watching children died. It makes him sick, and he still swears if he finds her world and it's like that he'll do something about it. Because it's not right. It'll never be right. ]}

How those people in the centuries before had used and used, wasted and wasted until little resources were left. Wars broke out over what remained. And from those ashes, Panem arose in North America.

She didn't even know if anything even still existed in those other places on Earth.]

The Romans did. [Because Plutarch had somehow known that. Had somehow known the history kept from the rest of the country.] At least, Plutarch said that. Panem et ...something. Bread and circuses. He said that's where we got our name.

Not a computer network, but one having sentience enough to go rogue and be labeled as 'evil'? Yeah, that's a bit out there.

Well, I can't say my life is terrible, but it's definitely not what it might have been had things gone different.

_{[ He quite likes his life, actually, but a part of him is jealous of his other self, in that other stream of time that fractured apart that day. The him that had known a dad and a mom and a lot of other things. But it wasn't really worth thinking about, just the thoughts that drifted through his mind on melancholy, sad days. ]}

I was bored, I guess. I thought I'd give it a shot, and as I got into it, I wanted to know if this "Big Brother" prevailed or if it got toppled. It just got me curious, because some people used to actually think this could be a thing.
