[ So, Luceti, you have Kirk showing up today on our totally hi-grade, super deluxe communication system (haha, yeah right). Anyways, he's there, and he currently has a copy of George Orwell's "1984" displayed in hand. ]

So... I have an honest to god sort of question for everyone. 

How many of you ever thought or believed the stuff in books like this would come true in the future? Or better yet, does anyone actually live in a world like these books describe?

Because, really, the twenty-first century view of the future is... interesting.

Oh yeah. It's equipped with the newest engines for light speed travel. We can make it to Vulcan...

Well, we can go a long ways in a matter of hours. It's made meeting other races and trade a lot easier - and more dangerous in the case of the Klingons.

[Vulcan? Klingons? Kitty has no idea what any of that even is, but it sounds like something straight out of a science fiction novel. In other words? Totally cool!]

Wow, that's so awesome! Like I can't even imagine... but man, I wish I could ride in a spaceship like that. We've got a super high tech jet, but it's just not the same, you know? It can go fast, but not light speed fast!

It really is something else, watching the stars go by as streaks of light... It's amazing.

I'll have to take your word for it, but I didn't think it would be. In general, going to the Dark-side sounds like it's bad for your health.

Still, it's better than getting out the, uh, organic ways.

Just stay out of Klingon space and you'll be fine. It can get kind of boring though, when you have to do long jumps.

I'm finding a lot of similarities between the worlds, that's for sure. Though I'm pretty sure I'll always be a bit behind, but that's okay. I don't really mind.

Long jumps?

Light years are a measure of distance, not time. Light has a max speed, it only goes so fast. The further away you travel, the more time it takes and even multiple jumps depending on the strain of your engines. Sometimes you have to come out and let them - well, reboot is the easiest term, like a rest stop on a long road trip. You can't risk the nuclear core going boom on you. Sort of ruins the whole traveling in space thing.

I was hoping for more hand-to-hand combat. But do I even want to know what those things are?

Not really. They're bad though. They're the kind of things that make people think twice about starting wars.

Hand to hand is still taught, but it's not as prevalent anymore. A lot of combat is long-distance now or gun-based. Hand-to-hand is something for self-defense, not warring.

Hm. I can see my world leaning towards breaking away from hand-to-hand battles, but with the powers from my world, I don't think we'll completely lose it. Our weapons will only becoming something to enhance their powers.

Well, you never know. No one ever thought we'd come up with something like the nuclear bomb or drone warfare, but we have. Sad fact of life, warfare evolves damn quick.

War brings out some nasty sides to people. I don't think I'm ready for it to evolve that quickly though. I think I'm ready for just some peace.

Yeah, I think I'm more on the fighter side. Just more, protecting people kind of fighting. I usually don't go off and start fights.
