Well, Britain had the bigger, better funded army. But the problem is, they didn't know America's geography very well. By luring the Britain away from the cost and into the landscape, they prevailed through guerrilla warfare. Eventually, the British couldn't take it anymore and didn't want to continue to fund a war that they couldn't even see, and parlayed for peace.
